Urgh

Struggling with this one. Overall, I enjoyed the first two books of the series, but I'm tempted to give up on this one. Campbell is a great world-builder and writes terrific action; dialogue - not his strength, and the 'romance' is just awkward and painful to read.
Why does Mari seem to become less mature with each book? After beginning at age eighteen, she appears to have regressed to around fifteen in this book. So very bored with the same discussions, Mari's bizarre temper tantrums, and Alain's constant apologizing.
Really wish Campbell had found someone to collaborate with on these.

I drafted a more detailed review, but I canned it for this succinct one.
Mari is emotionally immature, unrelatable, in denial, and annoying to read. It pretty much ruins the series. I'm struggling with this one.
The only reason I even finished is because it's old and the audible version is only $1.99, which allows me to listen to it and not really pay attention while I play video games or drive. I hate not finishing a series, but this is tempting me.

Story great, Romance terrible!!

As another reviewer ( Urgh) stated, it's flaws are with the romantic nature of the story. I've learned to just skip those parts till the story itself continues. The romantic antics and developments are not the author's best work. The problems between the two are repeated and repeated !! So half the book and story is great the other just skip those pages till the characters are back on track!
